Golnaz Hosseini’s paintings have a painful presence. Her work is intense in color and powerful despite a highly reduced palette. Alongside the achromatic colors black, white, and gray, she has recently focused primarily on the signal colors red, yellow, and blue. A characteristic aspect of the formal composition is the interplay between abstraction and representation. The visible realities are depicted in order to reveal the forces acting upon them. After studying at the Art University of Tehran, Golnaz Hosseini completed her master’s degree at the Institute Art Gender Nature HGK Basel FHNW, from 2019 to 2022. In 2024, the Basel-based artist received one of the Swiss Art Awards. For her exhibition at der TANK, she is creating a group of paintings that will be installed in a circular arrangement within the exhibition space, recalling depictions of the sun as a blazing sphere from her earlier work. Like the paintings in the series Dry Mouth (2020), these new works address uncontrollable forces while drawing on mythology.

The exhibition opening on 12 November 2026, from 5.30 pm, will take place following the first day of the Fall Symposium The Question of Class: Art Labor and Class Erasure, organized by the Institute Art Gender Nature and held on 12 and 13 November 2026.
